These are very interesting, and I enjoyed both. As a scientist though, I gotta be that guy and point out that the sequence you’re referring to is the Fibonacci sequence; the ratio between consecutive terms in the sequence converges to the golden ratio.
Also, I spotted a double "the" in the leftmost wheel of False Gift… and that you mistakenly used "reigned in" instead of "reined in".
Hope this doesn’t come across as too picky, but if this is effectively a draft for a future publication, I thought you might like to know!
